The red foxes are abundant in Provincetown and are hard to resist once you see them up close. However, their increasing tameness is putting them at risk. Often visitors will feed them (a huge no-no) or they'll leave food scraps behind. Wild animals go where the food is, and their reliance on human is incredibly dangerous to their safety and wellbeing.
You may see a fox on Commercial St. after sunset or wandering the dunes, and what do you know... they're getting closer to you. Is this some cosmic connection with mother nature? Are they recognizing the divine light in me? No, girl. More and more, they're learning to associate humans with food.
Resist the temptation to get close for a good picture or video for your social media and do the right thing: Yell, stomp your feet, or anything else that might make you appear to be a danger.
The red foxes are beloved in Provincetown and for the safety and wellbeing of them, remember to Scare, Don't Stare!
