FAQ

What does The Old Baby mean/how did you come up with it?
My shop's standalone building is over 100 years old and very small, roughly 10X13'.  I called it "the old baby" before I even signed the lease, more as a nickname for the building than anything else.  It's the only name that really stuck, and when it was time to fill out the legal documents, The Old Baby just felt right.

Every time I walk by your store, you're closed.  Why's that?
My normal business hours are between 11:00 and 5:00, and I'm typically closed between 1:30 and 2:00 for a lunch break.  I've tried opening earlier and/or staying open later, but the truth is the foot traffic doesn't support those hours.

I'm open 7 days a week in July and August; closed Mondays in May, June, and September.  Closed Monday through Wednesday in October.

There are times emergencies happen or I get sick, in which case I can't make it in.  I'm sorry if you made your way there and I'm not open.

Every time I walk by your shop it's packed. When is it more chill?
Usually between 3:30 and 5:00 when most people are going back home from the beach/pool.

Is Provincetown really that great and worth the money?
I'm not just saying this, but... it is!

I find whatever you're into: food, art, socializing, dancing, swimming, relaxing, riding bikes, hiking... you get all that here in an incredibly charming small town that's full of amazing architecture and natural splendor. The light during sunset is worth the trip alone, which sounds cheesy but it's very true.  Provincetown as a whole can be life changing.  It's why me and so many of our friends have ended up living here.

But, it can get expensive.

Hotels, BNBs, and rental houses are the price of much larger cities like NYC or London.  If you're not careful and you like to drink, you could easily spend up to $150 a day on meals and going out.  There's a cover charge to get into most of the events, if you want to ride a bike you have to rent one... It can all add up.

This isn't unlike most travel destinations, however.  But, even still, we're not talking most travel destinations... We're talking about PROVINCETOWN.  A queer haven, an artist's dream, a historical beauty, a true gem!

I hear sometimes, "I could go to Puerto Vallarta or Sitges for half the price."  Then I say, "Go."  But don't pretend like PV and Sitges are Provincetown.  If you're that obsessed with getting laid and getting blackout drunk, for sure.  There's a case for PV and Sitges.  But there's also a case for places like PV and Sitges getting ruined because of gays like you, so... Check yourself, sweetie.

Provincetown has an incredible reputation for a reason.  If you're on the fence because of the price but you CAN afford it, do yourself a favor and book your travel here.  It's as special as everyone says it is.

What's should I do when I get there?
Check out my recommendations.

Who designs the graphics that are on all your stuff?
I do!

I have a unique design process that's fairly involved, but most of my inspiration comes from antique/vintage ephemera items like business cards, postcards, matchbooks, flyers, newspaper ads, and zines.

I can take on a select amount of clients each year for freelance design work, so if you're interested, go here to see what I offer.

I saw something in the shop but I don't see it online.  Is there a way I can do a phone order?
If it's not online, it's only for sale in my shop (and I don't do phone orders).

I only offer a handful of my merch online, mainly because I like to reserve most of my product for folks who come to my shop.  Logistically it's hard to keep up with the demand of both businesses because we're such a small operation.

How do your clothes fit?
I like to say most of my clothes fit "true to size" (not too big, not too small), but "fit" these days is such a subjective word and it doesn't mean anything anymore.  I have customers who don't want a centimeter of extra fabric hanging off their torso and I have other customers who I would assume wear a size XS and they get a XXL because they want it to fit incredibly baggy.

If you're looking for a baggier or more relaxed fit, the Anchor Tee, Bunny LS Tee, and Plesbians Boxy Tee is the one for you. If you're someone who doesn't want to show off your hips and/or waist, the Plesbians tee is perfect for you.  It hits most people at the right spot and it's a much looser fit than normal.  I'm a bigger guy and wear an XL and it still fits relatively relaxed on me.  I also have friends and customers who are much thinner than I am and it just looks relaxed and slouchy on them.  All that to say, it looks good on most body types.

If you're looking for something that fits more true to size, I would recommend everything else except the shorts.

The shorts fit a little smaller in the seat (butt/hip area), so if you got a big phat ass or don't want your hips to be too highlighted, I recommend sizing up.  I'm a 38 waist and some of the shorts in a XXL are a little snug on me.  If your waist size is bigger than a 38, I recommend not buying.  (PS - I'm working on getting bigger sizes...)

Go to the last slide of each product's photo set and you'll find size dimensions there.

Why do only some of your styles go up to 4X?
It's important for me to include sizes in my shop that will fit most bodies.  During my first season, I bought SO MUCH stock of sizes 3 and 4XL in EVERY one of my styles, but sadly at the end of the season I had a tremendous amount of that product that I couldn't sell because I didn't have enough customers in those sizes.  So I've had to figure out how to serve my customer's needs without losing money.

Historically speaking (not just as someone who has worked in retail for over 20 years, but also as a bigger person), most people who wear above a 2XL wear darker colors, which is why the black and navy sizes go to a 4XL.  During my first buy of the season, I usually only go up to a 2XL in the lighter colors, and if there's demand for a certain style in a bigger size, it's easy for me to take down a name and let them know when the stock is available. I work with a really awesome studio in Brooklyn and I can get new styles and sizes pretty quickly.

If you see something on my website that's not in your size, go to the contact portion of this website and let me know and I'll try to make it for you!

Where can I park my bike when I visit your shop?
There are two parking spaces for cars in front of the shop and I ask that you park IN FRONT of the car closest to my building so it's out of the way of street traffic and isn't blocking the sidewalk.  Please do not park nor lean your bike against my front bench, in front of the gate to the right of my building, nor in front of the driveway to the left of my building.  If any of this sounds complicated, it'll make sense when you're here.  If it still doesn't make sense, poke your head in the door and ask me for help. I know bike parking can be a little bit of a pain so I think I've figured out the best solution for my guests.

Do you have any product leftover from previous seasons or do you plan on remaking any product from previous seasons?
What I hope makes The Old Baby special is that all my merch is designed for one season and then most of it goes away, which means I don't remake merch from previous seasons unless it's a permanent piece.**  That said, I do repurpose a couple illustrations to include in new designs, so you'll see a few classic Old Baby characters show up regularly.

Whatever's leftover at the very end of the season is usually donated or given away, but I make plenty announcements over social media to let everyone know when I'm done selling for the year so people have enough time to snag an item they've been thinking about getting.

**Permanent pieces as of 2026 are: The Whale Hat, Da Bears Hat, The Fish Hat, The Shop Hat, The Roddy Crewneck Sweatshirt, and The Graveyard Long Sleeve Tee.

What's your return/exchange policy?
As of 2026, I do not offer returns nor exchanges on any purchases made in store or online, no exceptions.

If you are buying a gift for someone, please refer to the dimensions slide in the photo carousel of the item you're interested in purchasing.  If you are shopping in store, we encourage you to try on the item before you buy it.

I know that's uncommon in the age of Amazon, but I lose a lot of money every year from people returning items that are too wrinkled/crumpled, covered in dog/cat hair, or smell like food, cologne, or body odor.

An item I bought from you is damaged; What do I do?
Though rare, defects can happen.  Whether you ordered your item online or bought in the shop, please fill out the email form on the contact page and I'll get back to you.  The refund will go back on the original card you used to purchase the item.

What are the care instructions for your products?
We recommend washing all product on cold and line drying to preserve the garment integrity.  If you don't like line drying tee shirts, machine dry on low.  That said, I wash and dry all my clothes as normal and don't worry so much about it, but if you're a stickler or if something fits you juuuuuuuuuust right, play it safe and line dry.  Never wash warm or hot.

I have a brand and I think your store would be a good fit for my product, would you be interested in carrying my stuff?
If you're a company that makes apparel like button downs in America, I'm interested. If you make home goods, streetwear apparel, water bottles, fragrances, etc., I'm okay on that for now but thank you for thinking of me.

How long does it take for you to send out my order?
Great question, thank you for asking.

It may take up to 10 BUSINESS DAYS for your package to physically leave my store, which means it may take up to 10 business days PLUS transit time to get to you.  I don't offer expedited shipping services nor can I accommodate mail-by requests.  I hate to say this, but if you're nervous your package won't reach you in time because of travel, a special occasion, etc., please don't order from me.  I love you, though!

For the love of anything holy, please do not make public comments on my posts on IG or give me negative reviews on Google.  In fact, no small business wants you to do that, so on behalf of all small business owners everywhere, STOP DOING THAT. We're not Amazon.  If there's an issue with your order, all you have to do is write me and I'll take care of it, I promise!

I got an email saying that my label has been created.  I've been checking the tracking status over the last few days and it still says "Label Created."  What's up?
To save time, when I get in online orders, I'll sometimes print out shipping labels BEFORE I pack anything up.  This saves me time when I actually do pick and pack your items.  You may see "Label Created" in your tracking information for up to 10 business days after you've placed your order. If it's been longer than 10 days, please reach out and we'll figure it out.

I ordered something but I received the wrong item.  Can you refund me or resend me the correct item?
First, I'm so sorry.  Of the hundreds of online orders I've done, this has maybe happened two or three times and it's bewildering as to why it happens.

If you'd like a full refund (including shipping), I'm happy to provide that.

If you still want your item(s) and you're not too annoyed with me, I'll issue a full refund (including shipping) and will ask you to reorder the item(s).  Once I see your reorder, I'll refund your shipping (just to say "Sorry this happened to you!") and I'll try to get your package out sooner than later.  I wish it were as easy as me just sending you back the right item, but unfortunately my system doesn't allow me to create shipping labels unless there's a new order.

The tracking information says my order was delivered but I never got it.  What can you do?
USPS is sometimes annoying with their tracking info because it can sometimes be inaccurate.  For example, it's not uncommon for you to get a delivery notification and the package shows up a day or two later.

If this happens, I ask that you wait a few days to see if it turns up.  If it's still not there, you can contact USPS and they may be able to provide more information.

My responsibilities as the vendor is to make sure your package is packed durably and is being sent to the address provided to me.  The Old Baby is not responsible for lost or stolen packages after delivery, and USPS does not cover insurance claims for packages lost or stolen after being marked as delivered.

In the event that your package has not been delivered for several weeks and the tracking location has not changed for several weeks, I will issue you a full refund.  But, please note I've only ever seen this happen maybe one or two times.

Is your shop a front for illegal activity?
If you ask my neighbor across the street, he'll say yes.  Though, I'm not sure why he decided to start that rumor... Maybe the bubbles and self tanner are starting to rot his brain?

But, no, it's not a front.  However, I was very happy to include that rumor on a piece of my merch this year.
